(Genesis 29.1-28) – 26 July 2020

Our reading this morning, took up where we left off last week – following on from
Jacob’s dream. In that dream, God promised to be with Jacob, as with Isaac and
Abraham, and through his offspring to bless all the families of the earth. Jacob
made a vow in return; more conditional that God’s promise, but a sign of a growing
relationship between them, and of some change in Jacob. Buoyed (no doubt) by
this experience, Jacob continued on to Haran, on his mission to ‘take a wife from
the daughters of Laban’ (cf. 28.2).
