The Church, the State, the Media forum

This page contains speeches of speakers at the Social Justice Seminar – The Church, the State, the Media: who sets the social justice agenda? held at St Ninian’s on Saturday 30 August 2008.

The speakers at the seminar comprised a sparkling panel of four speakers including Rev’d Elenie Poulos National Director of Uniting Justice in Australia and a member of the World Council of Churches Advisory group; Jack Waterford AM, Editor at Large of the Canberra Times, whose articles in that paper repeatedly reflect his own passion for social justice and especially for Australia’s indigenous people; Professor John Langmore, former MP  for the Canberra electorate of Fraser, former Head of the Social Welfare Secretariat of the United Nations and now a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and ANU political scientist, Professor John Warhurst, a political commentator in the Canberra Times, a recent President of the Australian Republican Movement  and a layperson actively involved in the Catholic Social Justice movement.
